Crochet Star Rattle Pattern

I designed this little star rattle awhile ago and never got round to actually typing it up. So, here it is. Perfect little rattle for your perfect little star.

Pattern Notes-

· This pattern is in US terminology.

· Chain 1 doesn’t count as a stitch.

· Worked in the round unless stated otherwise.

Abbreviations-

· Ch = Chain

· MR = Magic Ring

· St(s) = Stitch(es)

· Sc = Single Crochet (UK = Double Crochet)

· Inc = Increase | Crochet two into same st

· Dec = Decrease | Crochet two sts together

· Sc3tog = Single Crochet three sts together

Materials-

· DK (8 ply/light worsted weight) Cotton Yarn in any colour of your choice.

· 3mm Crochet Hook

· Scissors

· Yarn Needle

· 22mm Rattle Insert (optional)

· Stuffing

You are more than welcome to use any yarn and hook size as gauge is not important. Using a 3mm hook and dk yarn will make this star approximately 4.5 inches. Do remember to use a smaller hook than suggested for the yarn to make tighter stitches.

Centre (make 2)-

Using colour of your choice:

Row 1: MR. 6 sc into centre of ring. (6 sts)

Row 2: [Inc] 6 times (12 sts)

Row 3: [Sc, inc] 6 times (18 sts)

Row 4: [2 sc, inc] 6 times (24 sts)

Row 5: [3 sc, inc] 6 times (30 sts)

Row 6: [4 sc, inc] 6 times (36 sts)

Row 7: [5 sc, inc] 6 times (42 sts)

Do not fasten off.

Points of star-

For the first point:

Row 1: 6 sc. (7 sts) You are including the last st from row 7 of the centre.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Dec, 3 sc, dec. (5 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. 5 sc. (5 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc, dec. (3 sts)

Row 5: Ch 1, turn. 3 sc. (3 sts)

Row 6: Ch 1, turn. Sc3tog. (1 sts)

Ch 1 to fasten off. Yarn ends will be inside the star, however, you may wish to weave them in.

For the other 5 points:

*Attach yarn at next st*

Row 1: 7 sc. (7 sts) *Sc over yarn end to weave in*

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Dec, 3 sc, dec. (5 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. 5 sc. (5 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc, dec. (3 sts)

Row 5: Ch 1, turn. 3 sc. (3 sts)

Row 6: Ch 1, turn. Sc3tog. (1 sts)

Ch 1 to fasten off. Yarn ends will be inside the star, however, you may wish to weave them in. Do this now before moving onto assembly.

Do not fasten off for the last point on the second star.

Assembly-

Face both star sides right side out, with the tail ends on the inside.

Sc both sides together.

Before you reach the end, stuff the star and insert rattle.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

You are now finished!
