Crochet Christmas Pudding Bag



Notes-


· This bag measures approximately 7 inches in width and 4.5 inches in height. Strap length is 10 inches.

· This pattern is in US terminology.

· This pattern uses both single and double strands of yarn.


Abbreviations-


· Ch = Chain

· MR = Magic Ring

· St(s) = Stitch(es)

· Sl st = Slip Stitch

· BLO = Back Loop Only

· Sc = Single Crochet (UK = Double Crochet)

· Hdc = Half Double Crochet (UK = Half Treble Crochet)

· Dc = Double Crochet (UK = Treble Crochet)

· Inc = Increase | Crochet two into same st

· Dec = Decrease | Crochet two sts together

Materials-


· DK (8 ply/light worsted weight) Yarn in Brown, White, Green and Red.

I used Paintbox Simply DK in Coffee Bean, Paper White, Grass Green and Rose Red.

· 5mm Crochet Hook

· 3mm Crochet Hook

· Scissors

· Yarn Needle

· Stitch Marker

· Small amount of stuffing

Bag-


This pattern uses two strands of DK yarn. You can do this by using the middle and outside strands of one ball or use two balls of yarn.

This is worked in continuous rounds unless stated otherwise.


Using brown yarn (double strand) and 5mm crochet hook.


Row 1: MR. 6 sc into centre of ring. (6 sts)

Row 2: [Inc] 6 times (12 sts)

Row 3: [Sc, inc] 6 times (18 sts)

Row 4: [2 sc, inc] 6 times (24 sts)

Row 5: [3 sc, inc] 6 times (30 sts)

Row 6: [4 sc, inc] 6 times (36 sts)

Row 7: [5 sc, inc] 6 times (42 sts)

Row 8: [6 sc, inc] 6 times (48 sts)

Row 9: [7 sc, inc] 6 times (54 sts)

Row 10: [8 sc, inc] 6 times (60 sts)



Rows 11-20: 60 sc (60 sts)


Row 21: [8 sc, dec] 6 times (54 sts)


Change to white yarn (double strand).


Row 22: [7 sc, dec] 6 times (48 sts)

Row 23: BLO 48 sc (48 sts)

Row 24: [6 sc, dec] 6 times (42 sts)

Do not fasten off. Continue to strap.



Strap-


Ch 30. Sc into 21st st of row 24.

Sc along the ch 30. Sl st back into 1st st of row 21.


Fasten off and weave in all ends.




 

Icing-


Using white yarn (double strand) and 5mm crochet hook.


Working through the front loops of row 23, attach yarn to the last stitch of that row.



Ch 1, sc into same st, hdc, dc, 2 tr, dc, hdc, sc.

*Sc, hdc, dc, tr, tr, dc, hdc, sc.** Repeat * to ** 4 more times.

Sl st to starting sc.

Fasten off and weave in ends.



 


Berries (make 3)-


Using red yarn (single strand) and 3mm crochet hook.


Row 1: MR. 6 sc into centre of ring (6 sts)

Row 2: [Inc] 6 times (12 sts)

Rows 3-4: 12 sc (12 sts)

Row 5: [Dec] 6 times (6 sts)

Fasten off leaving long tail end.

Stuff the berry.

Using tail end, sew the last 6 sts together to close the hole.




 

Leaves (make 2)-


Using green yarn (single strand) and 3mm crochet hook.


Leaving a long enough tail to sew. Ch 10. Sc into 2nd ch from hook. Sc, hdc, dc, 2dc in same ch space, dc, hdc, sc, sc.

Ch 1, now work down the other side of the ch. Sc, sc, hdc, dc, 2dc in same ch space, dc, hdc, sc, sc.

Sl st into turning ch.



Sl st into 1st sc. [sc, ch 2, sl st into 2nd ch from hook, sc] all in the same st.

Sl st into the next 2 sts, [sc, ch 2, sl st into 2nd ch from hook, sc] repeat 5 more times.

Sl st into the next 2 sts. Ch 4, sl st into the 2nd ch from hook. Sl st twice.



Now sl st down the middle of the leaf. This should be in the middle of the starting ch. See pictures for details.



Fasten off, leave long tail to sew. Weave this tail through the back of the leaf so the tail end is at the stem of the leaf.


 

Assembly-


Arrange the three berries and two holly leaves how you’d like them.

Sew them into place. Use both yarn ends for leaves.

Weave in all remaining ends.



You are now finished.
